becky + greg | short story | byron bay

Cheer up. Slow Down. Chill out.

Pretty sage advice from the welcome sign at the entrance of Byron. So that’s what we did.

Byron is a beautiful part of the world, and if you’ve never been, we highly recommend it. Naturally, we were pretty stoked when Becky and Greg asked us to come along and capture their day.

They choice the stunning Horizon as the locale for the wedding – perched atop a hill it offers breathtaking views of Cape Byron and was a magnificent backdrop for their ceremony.

It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows though, at least not when we arrived. Storms were threatening all morning, and just half an hour before the ceremony the heavens opened.

Mother Nature, however, was clearly following the same run sheet we were and the rain stopped right on cue, allowing the outdoor ceremony to take place.

If we had to describe Becky + Greg – and indeed their wedding – in one word, it would be Energy.

It was abundant, and it was infectious.

We had such a blast spending the day with them, their family and friends. Hopefully their film does their energy justice.

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Bird. Thanks for having us.

mario + jess | short story | melbourne

We’ve always said that the best thing about what we do, is the people we get to meet. That’s the reward for us. It always has been.

Marz and Jess are one of a kind, and we’re so glad they asked us to share in their day. What an experience.

Sure, it wasn’t on a far-flung island, with dolphins breaching in the background, but for us, this was one of the most important weddings we captured this year.

It was a wedding where we both stopped and looked at each other after the ceremony. We didn’t need to say anything. We both knew we’d experienced something pretty special.

The energy and emotion surrounding these two people was palpable. It was infectious. It was grounding. It was awesome.

Though we only get to show a small part of it in this film, we hope we do their story justice.

Bonus fact: It was also the first time we’d ever filmed a real-life wolverine.

mat + kate | short story | st kilda

Based in Perth, Kate + Mat regularly make the trip across to visit family + friends in Melbourne. They love the city, and considering the pearler of a day St Kilda put on, it seemed an obvious choice for the location of their wedding. Coinciding with the Spring Racing Carnival festivities was no accident, we’re sure.

Super relaxed and down to earth, it was a joy to spend the day with this amazing couple, their families, and friends.

Kate got ready at her sisters house, where the abundance of natural light made for an easy shoot. Before too long, the boys from J’Aton Couture arrived with that incredible dress. And after some gentle persuasion it was on. That dress – holy fricken moly.

Making things easy, Mat got ready on site at The Prince Hotel. We snuck downstairs early to sneak a peak at the ceremony and reception setup, where the team from The Style Co had transformed The Deck into a sheek and contemporary space. Kate’s love of florals was a big feature, as was the custom frame, designed as a one-off for the ceremony.

Prince, The Deck proved an amazing location for both the intimate ceremony, and the late afternoon cocktails that followed, just as the sun was setting over St Kilda. Led by celebrant, Jess Hills, the ceremony featured heartfelt vows from both Kate + Mat.

Right on golden hour, we whisked the couple off for some quick location shots, ably led by the super talented Erin + Tara.

The cocktail event meant a real party atmosphere with everyone enjoying a drink from the circular bar. At 10pm an incredible chocolate dessert buffet was unveiled. As is customary whenever a dessert buffet is present, we took it upon ourselves to taste test, just to make sure it wasn’t poisonous for guests. All clear.

It was certainly a party, with the dance floor in full swing all night long. Undeterred by the late hour, the party continued downstairs in the Cantina Bar. We retreated to bed. Thanks for having us! #matsealsthedeal
